Sources: Graham Potter in contention to be next Celtic manager

Posted on February 25, 2026February 25, 2026 by Mrsport

Sweden manager Graham Potter is set to be considered as a potential option for Celtic’s next permanent appointment, sources have told Football Insider.

The former West Ham and Chelsea boss is viewed as an “outsider” to potentially get the job at the moment, with several clubs expected to have him on their radar ahead of next season.

Potter has taken charge of over 160 games in the Premier League, and sources say that his level of experience is likely to have him positioned as a potential option to take the reins at Celtic.

The 50-year-old is set to lead the Swedish national team into their World Cup qualifying play-off campaign at the end of March, as they bid to reach the finals for the first time since 2018.

Celtic could be set to learn Graham Potter availability by April
Celtic are currently assessing their options behind the scenes before making their next appointment in the summer, and they could be set to receive more clarity over Potter’s future by the start of April.

The Englishman is set to lead Sweden into their play-off semi-final against Ukraine on 26 March, which could then set up the possibility of an all-important final against Poland or Albania on 31 March.

His initial contract with the Scandinavian outfit only covered until the end of the qualifying group, but could be extended until after the finals, according to The Guardian.

However, fail to qualify through the upcoming play-offs, and it is possible that he could be available without the need for any compensation this summer.

Celtic are keen to assess every possible option that could be available to them, and with an update on Potter’s contractual situation now close, it could potentially rule him in or out of the reckoning.New appointment to bring ‘massive overhaul’ at Parkhead
Football Insider revealed last week that the appointment of a new manager at Celtic is set to bring about a “massive overhaul” in the playing squad this summer.

The next incumbent in the dugout is expected to want to add several of his own players to the group in order to stamp his imprint on the team, while failure to secure the Scottish Premiership title in the coming months could spark further efforts to refresh the Bhoys’ options.

Martin O’Neill’s men are now six points adrift of Hearts at the top of the table after they were beaten at home by Hibernian on Sunday, which heaps significant pressure on their game in hand against Aberdeen.

Celtic would get a sizeable financial boost if they were to come back and ensure they retained their title, but failure to do so may leave them with little room to work with in terms of budgets for next term.
