DeaI D0NE — Celtic 21-year old transfer target puts pen to paper on a SH0CKING 3-year deaI keeping him at the club until 2029

Posted on March 16, 2026 by Mrsport

Silas Andersen has officially committed his long-term future to Swedish side BK Häcken, ending months of speculation that linked the promising midfielder with a move to several European clubs — including Celtic.

The 21-year-old has signed a new contract that will keep him at Häcken until 2029, a move that strengthens the club’s control over one of their most highly regarded young talents. The announcement comes after a period in which Andersen’s name frequently appeared in transfer reports across Europe.

For Celtic supporters who had been monitoring the situation, the news effectively shuts the door — at least for now — on any immediate move for the midfielder.

Andersen’s rapid rise in Sweden

Andersen’s reputation has grown quickly since arriving in Sweden.

The Danish midfielder joined Häcken from FC Utrecht in early 2025, following an earlier spell within Inter Milan’s youth system. While he was already considered a technically gifted player, it was regular first-team football in the Allsvenskan that truly accelerated his development.

Consistent minutes in midfield allowed Andersen to showcase his composure on the ball, intelligent positioning, and ability to dictate the tempo of matches. Those qualities quickly made him a reliable presence in Häcken’s starting lineup.

His profile was boosted further through appearances in European competition, where he faced tougher opposition and continued to impress with mature performances beyond his years.

Naturally, those displays did not go unnoticed.

Celtic were among clubs monitoring Andersen

During the January transfer window, Andersen began attracting attention from clubs across the continent.

Celtic were reported to be among the teams keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s progress. The Hoops have developed a reputation for identifying young talent in smaller European leagues — players who can arrive in Glasgow, develop further, and eventually become key first-team contributors.

Andersen’s technical ability, composure in midfield, and room for growth fit the exact profile of players Celtic often target.

However, while interest was noted, there was never any indication that Celtic made a concrete approach during the winter window.

Rangers made the strongest move
The most serious attempt to sign Andersen actually came from the other side of Glasgow.

According to reports in Sweden, Rangers submitted a £3.5 million offer for the midfielder late in the January window. Häcken rejected the bid, with the Swedish club believed to value Andersen closer to £6 million.

That rejection signaled how highly the club rate their young midfielder and suggested they were in no rush to sell unless a significantly larger offer arrived.

With growing interest building around him, Häcken’s next move was predictable.

New contract secures Häcken’s position

By agreeing a new contract until 2029, Häcken have ensured they remain firmly in control of Andersen’s future.

Clubs often take this approach when one of their emerging talents begins attracting widespread attention. A long-term deal protects their position and strengthens their bargaining power if larger clubs return with serious offers in the future.

In Andersen’s case, the extension sends a clear message that Häcken are not looking to lose him anytime soon — unless a club is willing to meet their valuation.

The player himself also appears happy with the situation.

Andersen has previously spoken about enjoying his time in Sweden and appreciates the trust the club has shown in him by giving him regular first-team opportunities.

What it means for Celtic
For Celtic, the new contract makes any potential move significantly more complicated.

While the Hoops were only linked with monitoring Andersen rather than making a formal approach, the situation would now require a far bigger financial commitment if they ever decided to pursue the midfielder seriously.

With Häcken holding a long-term contract and a strong negotiating position, any future transfer would likely involve a sizeable fee.

For now, Andersen’s focus remains on continuing his development in Sweden — while clubs across Europe, including those in Glasgow, will no doubt keep a close eye on how his career progresses.
