Danny Rohl Licking His Lips After Kris Boyd EXP0SES Celtic WẸAKNESS That Rangers Will Use to Smāsh Hoops at Ibrox on Sunday

Posted on February 27, 2026February 27, 2026 by Mrsport

Kris Boyd has poured fuel on the fire ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster at Ibrox and his brutal assessment of Celtic may have handed Rangers a psychological edge before a ball is even kicked.

The former Ibrox striker did not hold back when analysing the Hoops’ recent form, branding them a “basket case” and labelling them “the most vulnerable” side among the title challengers. With the Premiership race tightening and pressure mounting, Boyd believes Celtic’s defensive frailties are there to be targeted. And if Rangers boss Danny Rohl needed any extra motivation or tactical focus ahead of the derby, Boyd may just have spelled it out for him.

Celtic’s back line has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, particularly in high-stakes fixtures. Heavy European damage against Stuttgart, coupled with dropped points domestically, has exposed a side that once prided itself on defensive resilience.

Boyd highlighted not just the goals conceded, but the manner of them poor positioning, hesitation under pressure and a vulnerability when pressed aggressively.Against top-six opposition, the numbers make uncomfortable reading. Points have slipped away in key moments, and when the tempo rises, Celtic have looked far less assured than in previous campaigns. Boyd’s criticism centres on the belief that the Hoops can be rattled — especially away from home.

That is where Sunday’s setting becomes crucial.

Ibrox is rarely forgiving, particularly in a title race. The atmosphere will be intense, the pressing relentless, and Rangers will look to test Celtic’s composure from the first whistle. If Boyd’s assessment is accurate, Rohl’s side will aim to force mistakes high up the pitch, attack second balls quickly and isolate defenders who have shown signs of uncertainty.Boyd’s “basket case” remark may be provocative, but it reflects a growing narrative that Celtic are no longer as defensively solid as they once were. The inability to shut games down cleanly and the tendency to concede at key moments have cost them momentum.

Rangers, by contrast, have found rhythm at the right time. Confidence is high, and with home advantage, they will sense opportunity. Exploiting space behind full-backs, targeting aerial deliveries into the box and maintaining sustained pressure could be the blueprint.

For Celtic manager Martin O’Neill, the challenge is clear. Silence the noise, steady the defence and rediscover the authority that has defined previous title wins. But in derby football, perception can quickly become reality — and Boydhas ensured the spotlight is firmly fixed on one perceived weakness.

If Rangers strike early and expose the fragility Boyd described, Ibrox could become a hostile environment Celtic struggle to escape from.

Sunday will reveal whether Boyd’s words were exaggeration or insight. But one thing is certain Rangers will not ignore them.
