Celtic ha ter Todd Cantwell shares four-word message on Instagram after Rangers win today to get closer to b-eating Hoops in the Title Race despite Old Firm Derby defeat in the League

Rangers secured a narrow but important 1–0 victory away to St Mirren on Sunday — and one former Ibrox midfielder clearly enjoyed the outcome from afar.

Todd Cantwell reacted to the result on social media shortly after the final whistle, praising both Rangers and his current club Blackburn Rovers following a positive weekend for the English midfielder.

The decisive moment in Paisley came in the 31st minute when Tuur Rommens found the breakthrough in what was otherwise a tight and scrappy encounter. Chances were limited for both sides, but Rangers did enough to edge the contest and secure all three points.

While the performance may not have been a classic, the result carried real significance.

The victory keeps Rangers firmly in the Scottish Premiership title race, closing the gap to leaders Hearts to just three points after their surprise 1–0 defeat to Kilmarnock a day earlier.

For Cantwell, the weekend could hardly have gone much better.

The midfielder had already played his part in Blackburn Rovers’ 2–1 win over Millwall in the English Championship on Saturday — a result that helped ease the club’s relegation worries.

Then, less than 24 hours later, Rangers followed it up with their own crucial win in Paisley.

Cantwell was clearly pleased with how things unfolded.

Todd Cantwell hails ‘great weekend’:

Despite his mixed ending at Ibrox, the 28-year-old still appears to keep a close eye on events in Glasgow.

After watching Rangers’ victory over St Mirren, Cantwell shared a brief but positive reaction with his followers on Instagram.

“Great weekend all round,” he posted on his Instagram story, along with three clapping hand emojis.

Cantwell’s time at Rangers was something of a rollercoaster.

When he first arrived in Glasgow, the attacking midfielder quickly became a fan favourite thanks to his energy, creativity and willingness to take responsibility in possession. However, his form eventually dipped and his relationship with sections of the support cooled before his departure to Blackburn Rovers in August 2024.

Now settled back in English football, Cantwell appears to have rediscovered some stability with Blackburn.

Interestingly, his name recently resurfaced in connection with Rangers once again.

Reports last month suggested that current Rangers boss Danny Rohl could be open to bringing the midfielder back to Ibrox. Rohl is believed to be an admirer of Cantwell’s ability, having seen him up close while managing Sheffield Wednesday.

However, any suggestion of a return to Glasgow at this stage appears unlikely.

Rangers have moved forward since Cantwell’s exit, and the midfielder himself seems focused on continuing his career with Blackburn.

Still, his reaction to the weekend’s results suggests there remains a degree of affection for the club where he once played.

And if things continue to go his way, Cantwell could end the season celebrating on two fronts — Blackburn securing their Championship status and Rangers pushing all the way in the Scottish Premiership title race.
