Celtic former manager SPOTTED with Hoops Coach in vi ral f00tage that could only mean ONE thing — You Will love what Big Ange said about Celtic as he delivered decision on coming back home to Glasgow

Posted on March 18, 2026 by Mrsport

Celtic’s search for a new manager continues to dominate the conversation—but a chance meeting involving Johnny Hayes has added an interesting twist to the narrative.

With Stephen McManus stepping up to the first-team setup as part of the interim reshuffle, Hayes has taken charge of the B Team during a challenging period. Results have been mixed, with Celtic B currently sitting eighth in the Lowland League, reflecting a season that has struggled to find real consistency.

Yet while the focus remains firmly on the senior side and the hunt for a new boss, Hayes recently crossed paths with a very familiar figure—someone who still looms large in the minds of Celtic supporters.

Familiar face, familiar questions
Spotted during what appeared to be a UEFA coaching course, Hayes was pictured alongside former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

The Australian is now working as a technical observer for UEFA, analysing matches and reporting on tactical trends across European competitions. It’s a role that keeps him close to the game—but crucially, at a distance from the dugout spotlight for now.

Naturally, that brief encounter has sparked fresh discussion among fans. With Celtic actively searching for a long-term managerial solution, the question always seems to circle back—could Postecoglou ever return?

Ange shuts the door on a return
The short answer? Highly unlikely.

Since leaving Celtic for Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, Postecoglou has consistently hinted that a return to a former club doesn’t align with his career path. And in a recent appearance on The Overlap, he made that stance crystal clear.

“I love Celtic, mate. What a football club.

“If I was younger, I probably would’ve stayed there longer. I probably would’ve stayed there three, four years.

“I think I could’ve made progress with them in Europe.”

That final remark will resonate with supporters. European progress always felt like unfinished business during his time in Glasgow—a lingering “what if” that still sparks debate.

But any hope of a reunion is quickly shut down by his next comments.

“In terms of going back, I don’t go back. I just don’t think that’s kind of been my career.

“Whatever the next step is, it’ll be something new, something I can make an impact on, somewhere I can win things.

“It was a great experience. To be within a community that’s just so passionate, it’s crazy how passionate they are about their football club.

“I was fortunate we had success, it’s a positive experience. But I loved every minute of it. I look back on it fondly.

“I won’t go back, I don’t think that’s, kind of, how my career’s played out.”

Celtic’s decision carries huge weight
While the idea of a return may appeal emotionally, the reality is Celtic must now look forward—not back.

The next appointment is shaping up to be one of the most important decisions the club has made in years. With both Rangers and Hearts continuing to strengthen, standing still simply isn’t an option.

Celtic don’t just need to match their rivals—they need to outthink and outbuild them.

And as nostalgic as moments like Hayes’ meeting with Postecoglou may feel, they serve as a reminder of one thing above all else:

The past may inspire—but the future will define everything.
