CAPTAIN GRAEME SHINNIE POST-MATCH INTERVIEW DRAW THE ATTENTI0N OF SPFL AS HE BRUTAIIY SIammed MCGREGOR ACTION AFTER 2:1 HOME DEFEATS

Tensions in Scottish football have escalated dramatically following Aberdeen’s 2:1 home defeat, after Aberdeen F.C. captain Graeme Shinnie delivered a fierce post match interview that has now drawn the attention of the Scottish Professional Football League.

Fresh controversy has erupted in Scottish football after explosive claims from Aberdeen F.C. captain Graeme Shinnie, who suggested that Celtic F.C. have not recorded a clean win in major clashes since 2026.

He alleged that their victories have been influenced by officiating decisions and claimed that the Scottish Professional Football League has turned a blind eye.

The comments were delivered during a tense media exchange following Aberdeen’s 2:1 home defeat and have now triggered a formal review by league authorities.

Shinnie, visibly frustrated, escalated the rhetoric beyond the immediate match.“I am going to say something people do not like hearing, he began. Since 2026, show me a major win involving Celtic that has not been surrounded by controversy.”When a reporter asked him to clarify what he meant, the Aberdeen captain did not soften his stance.

“I am talking about patterns. Big decisions. Game changing moments. It keeps happening. Not just against us but against other clubs too. And their captain’s behaviour after the whistle was disrespectful and completely unacceptable from someone wearing that armband.”“There has not been a win in these big clashes that was not flooded with controversy. And somehow it is always brushed aside. At some point you stop calling it coincidence.”

Though Shinnie stopped short of directly accusing Celtic of wrongdoing, his suggestion of official manipulation stunned the press room.

All I am saying is this. When every major turning point keeps falling one way, questions have to be asked. And the league cannot keep pretending it does not see it.

The accusation that the league is blind to recurring officiating issues has drawn immediate attention.

Under SPFL regulations, comments implying systemic bias or manipulation can fall under rules relating to bringing the game into disrepute. Within hours, the league confirmed it was aware of Shinnie’s statements.

In a measured response, the SPFL said:The League is aware of comments made by Graeme Shinnie following the recent fixture and is reviewing the matter in accordance with its disciplinary procedures. The SPFL strongly rejects any suggestion of official manipulation and maintains full confidence in its match officials.

The statement emphasized the league’s commitment to integrity and fairness, making clear that allegations of manipulation are taken seriously.

Reaction across Scottish football has been swift and divided.

Some former players sympathised with Shinnie’s frustration, arguing that refereeing standards have been under scrutiny for several seasons and that captains are entitled to voice concerns.

Others believe the Aberdeen skipper may have gone too far.

One former top player commented that it is one thing to question a decision but another to suggest systemic manipulation and that such claims enter dangerous territory.Celtic sources have privately dismissed the claims as emotional and unfounded. A club representative insisted that their successes have been earned on the pitch and described the allegations as deeply disappointing.

Shinnie’s remarks come after a heated match in which Aberdeen felt aggrieved over the build up to Celtic’s winning goal. The captain had already criticised what he described as disrespectful behaviour from Celtic players after the final whistle.

The SPFL review process could lead to several outcomes, ranging from no further action to a formal charge. Sanctions for comments deemed damaging to the league’s reputation can include fines or suspensions.

Legal observers note that allegations of manipulation are treated seriously because they strike at the heart of sporting credibility.

For Aberdeen, the timing is delicate. With emotions already high after the defeat, the club now faces the possibility of its captain being drawn into disciplinary proceedings.

The SPFL is expected to gather reports from match officials and review media transcripts before determining its next step.

Graeme Shinnie’s words have ensured that this issue will not fade quietly. Whether his claims are viewed as accountability or reckless accusation, they have placed Scottish football’s governing body under intense spotlight.
