“YOU JUST SCORED THE WINNER AGAINST LIVINGSTON, BUT YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THE OPPOSITION WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN” – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Sparks Social Media Storm

Posted on February 12, 2026February 12, 2026 by Mrsport

Celtic star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has inadvertently set the football world ablaze after scoring a last-minute winner against Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena, only for his post-goal comments to dominate social media.

The game was already dramatic, with Marcelo Saracchi giving Celtic an early lead in the 15th minute, and Livingston’s Ryan Muirhead equalising from the penalty spot in the 57th. But it was Oxlade-Chamberlain’s stoppage-time strike at 90+1 minutes that sealed the 2–1 victory.

What should have been a moment of celebration quickly turned controversial. In an on-camera interview immediately after the goal, Oxlade-Chamberlain, caught in the heat of the moment, made a statement about Rangers that has since gone viral.

While the exact phrasing is trending across social media platforms, pundits and fans alike are calling it “shocking” and “uncharacteristic” for a player in his position. Many believe the comment crosses a line, as it directly targets a rival club in a way that is unusual for an active player.

Celtic fans are divided: some defend the midfielder as “passionate and emotional,” while others worry that the comment could spark disciplinary action from the SPFL. Analysts are predicting that the league may open an investigation into Oxlade-Chamberlain’s words, especially given the sensitivity of comments about rival clubs in Scottish football.

In the post-match press conference, Celtic manager Martin O’Neil deflected attention from the controversy, praising the player’s decisive goal but refusing to comment directly on the viral remark.

“The focus should be on the performance and the points we earned today,” O’Neil said. “Alex played brilliantly to get the winner, that’s what matters on the pitch.”

Nevertheless, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s words have dominated headlines, and fans across the UK are debating whether a moment of heated emotion should have lasting consequences. One thing is clear: the 90+1 goal will be remembered not only for the victory it secured but also for the controversy it ignited off the pitch.
