BREAKING — SFA Sanction Celtic Following Auston Trusty Red Card Appeal

Posted on February 28, 2026February 28, 2026 by Mrsport

Celtic have been formally sanctioned following the outcome of their appeal against Auston Trusty’s controversial red card — with the Scottish FA dismissing the claim and reinstating the original punishment in full.

In a decision released this afternoon, the appeal was officially rejected, meaning the defender’s three-match suspension for violent conduct will now take immediate effect. The compliance update confirmed:

Claim Dismissed
Original sanction of a red card for sending off offence A2 (Violent Conduct) re-imposed
Three-match ban applies immediately
£650 appeal deposit payable within 30 days
Celtic had challenged the dismissal in the hope of overturning the ban, arguing the decision was excessive. However, the SFA’s review panel upheld the referee’s original call, concluding that the criteria for violent conduct had been met.

The ruling means Trusty will now miss three domestic fixtures at a critical stage of the season a significant blow given the timing and the importance of upcoming league matches. The £650 appeal deposit, standard procedure in failed claims, must also be paid within 30 days as part of the disciplinary process.

For Celtic, the focus now turns to how they reshuffle defensively in Trusty’s absence. With key fixtures on the horizon and pressure building in the title race, the Hoops must respond quickly to avoid further fallout from the controversy.

The matter is now considered closed, with no further appeal avenues available under current SFA regulations.
