Leeds United were defeated 1-0 at home to Manchester City in the Premier League.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke was sent off after the final whistle for confronting referee Peter Bankes following the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at Elland Road.
Farke was seen approaching Bankes and seemed to question him, but the referee instantly pulled out his red card to dismiss him and then gestured for him to walk away. The title contenders continued to pile the pressure on Arsenal, running out 1-0 winners at Elland Road thanks to an Antoine Semenyo first‑half strike.
The hosts created several chances to level the match and pushed City all the way, but were unfortunate not to find the back of the net.Farke marched onto the pitch after the whistle and vented his anger at the officials. Before the card was shown, goalkeeper Karl Darlow could be seen trying to steer his manager away from the confrontation. It remains unclear what specifically sparked Farke’s anger, especially given that there were few contentious decisions during the match. The German could now face a touchline ban and potential further action by the Football Association (FA).
Last year, Liverpool manager Arne Slot was sent off against Everton last year after confronting referee Michael Oliver at full time, and later received a two‑match touchline ban along with a £70,000 fine from an independent FA commission after accepting the charge.Meanwhile, Liverpool assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff received a two‑match ban and a £7,000 fine, while Liverpool and Everton were also fined £65,000 and £50,000 respectively for failing to control their players. This situation is different, though, as it involved only Farke approaching Bankes on his own. This is a breaking sports story and is being constantly updated with the latest news, pictures and videos.
