Posted on March 9, 2026March 9, 2026 by Mrsport

Rangers have released an official statement following the chaotic scenes that erupted after their Scottish Cup quarter-final defeat to Celtic at Ibrox, as the Scottish Football Association continues to assess whether sanctions will be imposed.

The Glasgow giants confirmed they will fully cooperate with the authorities after supporters from both clubs stormed the pitch following the final whistle.

The incident has now sparked a formal investigation by the SFA and Police Scotland, with possible disciplinary action still under consideration.Rangers Issue Official Response
In their statement, Rangers condemned the disorder and confirmed they are working closely with investigators as the situation unfolds.

The club said they were “deeply concerned” by the behaviour that followed the match and insisted they would assist the authorities in identifying those responsible.

The statement also acknowledged the damage caused inside the stadium and the danger posed to supporters, staff and players during the disorder that followed Celtic’s penalty shootout victory.

With the SFA investigation still ongoing, any potential punishments — including fines, stadium restrictions or other sanctions — have not yet been decided.

SFA Investigation Underway
The Scottish FA moved quickly to confirm an investigation into the events that took place after the dramatic quarter-final clash.

Hundreds of supporters entered the pitch following the penalty shootout, leading to tense confrontations and forcing police and stewards to intervene.

Objects were reportedly thrown, flares were lit and several individuals were arrested as police worked to restore order at Ibrox.

Authorities are now reviewing footage and gathering evidence before determining whether disciplinary measures will be taken against either club.

Ally McCoist Furious After Witnessing Chaos

Rangers legend Ally McCoist did not hide his frustration after witnessing the scenes unfold in front of him.

The former striker and manager was at Ibrox for the match and later spoke about his anger and disappointment at what he saw.

McCoist described the behaviour as “diabolical” and insisted it was an embarrassment for Scottish football.

He also expressed concern that the violence could have serious consequences for future Old Firm fixtures, particularly when it comes to the allocation of away supporters.

McCoist pointed out that the derby had only recently returned to having larger away crowds, and warned that the chaos could quickly reverse that decision.

Fallout Continues
The incident has already sparked widespread condemnation across Scottish football, with calls for strong action if those responsible are identified.

While the SFA has yet to confirm any sanctions, the outcome of the investigation could have significant implications for both clubs moving forward.

For Rangers, the statement signals their intention to cooperate fully as authorities attempt to determine exactly what happened at Ibrox.

But with tensions between the two rivals once again spilling over beyond the pitch, the fallout from this Old Firm clash may continue long after the final whistle.
