Posted on March 5, 2026March 5, 2026 by Mrsport

The official website of Leeds United F.C. briefly went offline on Wednesday evening shortly after the club released a statement regarding key moments from their recent match against Sunderland A.F.C..
A large number of supporters attempted to access the statement at the same time, which created heavy traffic on the site. As a result, the club’s servers struggled for a short period before the website returned to normal.
Many fans reported repeatedly refreshing the page while waiting for the statement to load.
Club Contacts The FA Over Match Concerns
In the announcement, Leeds confirmed that they have formally written to The Football Association regarding two main issues from the fixture.
The first concern relates to chants from sections of the visiting supporters during the match. According to the club, the timing and nature of the chants may have affected the atmosphere during important moments of the game.
Leeds has asked the governing body to review the situation under existing regulations related to supporter conduct and stadium standards.
Penalty Decision Under Review
The club also raised questions about a penalty awarded during the match by referee Stuart Attwell.
After carrying out its own review of the incident, Leeds believes the decision may require further evaluation. The club stated that the call could have influenced the final result of the match.
As part of its submission, Leeds has requested a full and transparent review of the officiating process surrounding the decision.
Official Club Statement
Leeds United said:
“Leeds United Football Club confirms that we have written to The Football Association to raise concerns following our recent fixture against Sunderland.
We believe certain chants from sections of the visiting support went beyond normal competitive rivalry and may have been intended to distract our players during important moments.
In addition, the club has questions regarding the penalty decision awarded against us. After reviewing the incident, we believe the call may require further assessment and may have influenced the match.
We have requested that The Football Association conduct a full and transparent review of the officiating process connected to the decision.
Leeds United remains committed to fairness, integrity and accountability within the game.”
Supporters React Online
The statement quickly sparked discussion among supporters online. Many fans welcomed the club’s decision to raise the matter with the governing body, saying it was important to seek clarity on key moments in matches.
Others noted that reviews from football authorities rarely lead to changes in match outcomes unless there is clear evidence that rules were not applied correctly.
Awaiting Response From The FA
At the time of writing, The Football Association has not yet released an official response, although acknowledgement of the club’s letter is expected.
Any review could include referee reports, match assessments and further analysis of the incident before a final conclusion is reached.
For Leeds United, the issue is not only about one moment in a single game. The club has emphasized that transparency and consistent officiating standards remain important for maintaining trust within the competition.
The brief outage of the club’s website also highlighted the level of interest from supporters, many of whom are now waiting to see how the governing body responds.
