Fuming Ally McCoist has claimed Celtic’s winner against Aberdeen was “offside” and believes VAR official Chris Graham should urgently have his eyesight checked.
The Rangers legend insists Benjamin Nygren’s strike in Celtic’s hard-fought 2-1 victory at Pittodrie was offside – despite the official VAR lines indicating the Sweden international was behind the last defender.
Peter Leven was also left furious, with the Aberdeen manager demanding clarification over why only one line was drawn by the video replay team.
But on the winning goal decision, he claimed: “It looks offside but why’s there not two lines drawn?
“There was only one drawn. But listen, right now it’s not going for us, these decisions in the game.
“Players need to be a bit more streetwise. Lyall needs to ask the question late on when Hatate goes in. I thought the players worked really hard today. We started the second-half really well, but listen, it’s just not going for us.They worked really hard, but it’s zero points which is frustrating because I thought they put in a good shift tonight. They are a quality team, Celtic, but I’m proud of the players tonight.”
The first image shown from the Sky camera seemed to suggest Nygren’s goal might have been disallowed, however, the final freeze frame cleared up any uncertainty.
But the 64-year-old was not convinced, and even compared Nick Walsh’s video replay assistant to a visually impaired comic from years ago.
McCoist, speaking to talkSPORT, said: “Has anything changed after Celtic’s half yard offside goal winner? You need to get a look at it, here’s one for the younger ones, was Marty Feldman on VAR, here’s one for the younger ones, look up Marty Feldman. Whoever was on VAR needs to get their eyeballs checked.”
